The second meeting of
the seventh Council of the World Association for Sedimentation and Erosion
Research (WASER) was held at Florence on September 5, 2023. The Council Meeting
was attended by 8 members representing the seventh Council, as well as several
observers. Prof. Helmut Habersack presided over the meeting.
Three reports were
presented at the meeting. These included the President’s report by Prof.
Zhaoyin Wang (presented by Prof. Cheng Liu); the Treasurer’s report by Prof.
Cheng Liu; reports on the work of the Secretariat during the period 2019-2022
and the work plan for 2022-2025 by Prof. Guangquan Liu. Besides, briefs of the
Minutes of the online Council meeting last December by Dr. Ying Zhao, an
overview of the forthcoming 8th ICEC (Québec City, Canada,
2024) by Prof. Weiming Wu, and an overview of the 16th ISRS (Omaha,
Nebraska, USA, 2025) by Prof. Junke Guo were also presented at the meeting.
Issues related to the future development of
the Association, the ISRS and ICEC development and the co-sponsoring of
international conferences, the future of WASER and steps to increase the
visibility were also discussed during the meeting, including: (1) to attract
more experts from the continents and countries which currently not well
represented; (2) the idea whether to hold the ICEC and ISRS conferences
concurrently in the future; (3) the four special publications on sediment research
and management for the future development of WASER.
