The Seventh WASER Council Meeting held online

The Seventh Council Meeting of the World Association for Sedimentation and Erosion Research (WASER) was held online, combined by WeChat group meeting and E-mail exchanges, on December 5-6, 2022. The Council Meeting was attended by 22 members representing both the Sixth Council and the newly elected Seventh Council, as well as several observers. Prof. Zhaoyin Wang, the retiring President and Prof. Helmut Habersack, the new president, presided over the meeting for the first day and second day, respectively.

Three reports were presented at the meeting. These included the President’s report by Prof. Zhaoyin Wang; the Treasurer’s report by Prof. Cheng Liu; reports on the work of the Secretariat during the period 2019-2022 and the work plan for 2022-2025 by Prof. Guangquan Liu. Besides, an overview of the forthcoming 15th ISRS (Florence, Italy, 2023) by Prof. Luca Solari, and the overview of the 16th ISRS (Omaha, Nebraska, USA, 2025) were also presented at the meeting. The new president Prof. Helmut Habersack made a presentation about the future thoughts of WASER.

The meeting received the result of the poll for the election of members to the WASER Council for 2022-2025, and noted additional Council members, including the Co-opted Members (Prof. Zhaoyin Wang, Prof. Des Walling, Prof. Giampaolo Di Silvio, Prof. Junke Guo), and an Ex-officio Members (Prof. Guangquan Liu, Prof. Hongwei Fang and Mr. Wensheng Zhang).

The meeting also formally noted the award of the Honorary Members of WASER to Prof. Giampaolo Di Silvio, Prof. Chunhong Hu, and Prof. Zhaoyin Wang, nominated by Prof. Guangquan Liu, Secretary Gernernal; and the new Treasurer to Prof. Hongling Shi the new Secretary to Dr. Ying Zhao, nominated by the IRTCES.

Issues related to the future development of the Association, recruiting of members, revised membership dues, the IJSR impact factor and the co-sponsoring of international conferences were also discussed.
