SECOND COUNCIL MEETING OF WASER HELD IN MOSCOW

 

The Second Council Meeting of the World Association for Sedimentation and Erosion Research (WASER) was held in Moscow on the afternoon of July 31, 2007. 21 participants attended the council meeting, they are council members, Prof. Desmond E. Walling from United Kingdom, Prof. G. Di Silvio from Italy, Prof. Chih Ted Yang from USA, Prof. Qiyang Yu from China, Prof. Chunhong Hu from China, Prof. Zhaoyin Wang from China, Prof. Zanke C.E. Ulrich from Germany, Prof. H.E. Nakagawa from Japan, Prof. Jim Bogen from Norway, Prof. R.S.Chalov from Russia, Prof. G. Basson from South Africa, Prof. Sam S.Y. Wang from USA, Prof. John Gray from USA, former council member, Prof. Scheuerlein Helmut from Austria, staff of secretariat of WASER, Prof. Ding Zhongdai, Director of Qian Ning Foundation Committee of Sedimentation and Erosion Technology, Prof. Xiaoying Liu, Treasurer of WASER, Prof. Yanjing Zhang and Local Organizing Committee at Moscow, Prof. Kasimov, N.S. Dean of Faculty of Geography, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Corresponding Member of RAS , Prof. Alexeevskiy, N.I. from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and other representatives. The Council members, Dr. Andras Szollosinagy from UNESCO, Prof. W.Froehlich from Poland , Prof. Siba Prasad Sen from India , and Prof. Farhad Yazdandoost from Iran were unable to attend the meeting and presented their apologies.

Prof. Des E. Walling presided over the meeting. After Prof. Kasimov' welcoming speech, the meeting discussed, suggested and approved the following issues:

1 President's report by Prof. Des E. Walling;

2 Treasurer's report by Prof. Xiaoying Liu;

3 Nomination of Prof. Bingnan Lin from China and Prof. E. Plate from Germany as honorary member of WASER

4 Proposal of establishment of First WASER International Qian Ning Prize for Erosion and Sedimentation Technology and nomination of award candidates;

5 Report on the Second WASER Prize for Best Papers Published in the International Journal of Sediment Research by Prof. Chih Ted Yang;

6 WASER work plan 2007 – 2010 drafted by Prof. Qiyang Yu and Prof. Xiaoying Liu; and

7 Report on venue, sponsors and central theme of the 11 th ISRS briefed by Prof. G.Basson

During the meeting, On behalf of Prof. Shangfu Kuang, President of the IRTCES, Prof. Des E. Walling officially announced the election result of Council Members of WASER 2007-2010. The meeting also discussed amendment of WASER Statutes and establishment of Nomination Committee of Council and suggested a team led by Prof. G. Di Silvio to prepare a draft version for circulation and approval of the council.

Finally, Prof. Des E. Walling declared the closing of the meeting and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Local Organizing Committee for excellent work and hospitality provided for the council meeting.
