Dr. Farhad Yazdandoost has worked as a project engineer and later as a senior engineer at Bullen and Partners, a British Civil Engineering consulting firm, from 1989 to 1992. He has served as the dean of Civil Engineering Faculty of K. N. Toosi University of Technology-Iran, from 1993 to 1998. In 1998, Dr. Yazdandoost joined the Water Affairs of Ministry of Energy-Iran, as the Director General of the Research Bureau. He took up the position of Vice-Chancellor for research at K. N. Toosi University of Technology in 2000. He was appointed as the President of the Iran 's national Water Research Institute, in 2002.

Dr. Yazdandoost is the author of technical publications and scientific papers. His fields of specialty include River Engineering and Management, Hydraulic Structures and Urban Drainage Modelling. He is a founding member of the Iranian Hydraulic Association and has acted as its president for two terms. He is the founder and Director of Abangan magazine, a national seasonal water-engineering journal. Amongst his various professional activities, the following may be pointed out:

•  Member of the Council of the World Association on Sedimentation and Erosion Research - WASER

•  Member of National Committee of IHP, Iranian National Commission for UNESCO

•  Member of the Task Force Group on International Sedimentation Initiative – ISI, IHP, UNESCO

•  Member of the Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Division (APD) of the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research - IAHR

•  Member of the Fluvial Hydraulics Committee of the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research - IAHR

•  Editor of International Journal of River Basin Management, IAHR

•  Chairman of “International Conference on Hydraulics of Dams and River Structures”, Tehran , 2004
