Prof. Dr. Zhaoyin Wang

as a candidate for IAHR council member

Zhaoyin Wang (Oct. 1951, Shandong, China) is professor of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Tsinghua University and the Chairman of the Advisory Council of the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation . He is an editor of the IAHR journal “International Journal of River Basin Management” and the chief editor of the “ International Journal of Sediment Research ” .

 

Prof. Wang received his Ph. D. degree in 1985 and worked with Prof. E. J. Plate and Prof. P. Larsen at University of Karlsruhe in the period 1989-1994. His research interest s include sediment transportation, debris flow, turbulen ce structure, river dynamics , river management, coastal engineering, environmental sedimentation and vegetation and erosion processes . He has published more than 70 papers in international journals and conference proceedings and 68 papers in Chinese journals . He has published and edited 7 monographs and proceedings by international publishers.

 

In IAHR he is an active member of the Executive Committee of Asian and Pacific Division, a member of the Session of Fluvial Hydraulics, and the vice-Chairman of IAHR Chinese Chapter. He gave a keynote lecture at the 29 th IAHR Congress and will organize a short course for the 31 st IAHR congress. He delivered keynote lectures at the 12 th and 13 th IAHR-APD congresses and invited lecture at the 14 th IAHR-APD congress. As one of the initiators of the new IAHR journal “International Journal of River Basin Management” he has been actively involving in the editing and development of the journal.

ZY Wang is currently a full professor of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Tsinghua University, China. He is also the chairman of the advisory council of the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation and the chief editor of the International Journal of Sediment Research. Dr. Wang is also an editor of the IAHR journal “International Journal of River Basin Management”

 

Dr. Wang received his Ph. D. degree in 1985 and M.E. in 1983. He worked with Prof. E. J. Plate and Prof. P. Larsen at University of Karlsruhe in the period 1989-1994.

 

His research interest is mainly on sediment transportation, debris flow, turbulen ce structure of two-phase flow, river dynamics and river management, coastal engineering, environmental sedimentation and vegetation and erosion processes . Recently he and his colleagues developed the Vegetation-erosion dynamics, which is a powerful tool for modeling and prediction of erosion and vegetation process of watersheds.

He published 69 papers in international journals and conference proceedings and 65 papers in Chinese journals . He has published and edited 7 monographs and proceedings by international publishers.

 

Zhaoyin Wang has been awarded one First grade Natural Sciences P rice by the ministry of Education of China, one first grade price, two second grade prices and two third grade prices of Science and Technology Development by the Ministry of Water Resources .
