Principal research interests:
- River channel and erosional processes
- River hydrology and hydroecology
- Sediment yield and modes of sediment transport
Specialist in the fields of geography of river channel processes and sediment yield, development of the river channel regulation measures. Proposed and developed the concept of geographic-hydrological approach for studying the river channel processes, theory of erosion-channel systems. Described and realized the cartographical approach of the river channel processes investigations. Developed the morphodynamical classification of the river channel processes and channel deformations. Carried out regional analysis of the channel regime for the Northern Eurasia rivers. Analyzed channel processes on a number of small medium and large rivers of Russia and neighboring countries, as well as on small rivers in many regions of Russia . Proposed a classification and models for the mountain river channel deformations, principles of environmental assessment of the river channel processes, methods and approaches for the river channel regulation and training for different economical purposes (water transport, water supply constructions, hydropower industry, river channel crossings by communications, etc.).
Supervised 29 Ph.D. students and 3 Doctors of Geographical Sciences. Has more than 350 publications, including 21 monographs, university textbooks and manuals.
