8th National Meeting on Sediment Engineering) organized by the Commission of Sediment Engineering of the ABRH, Brazilian Association on Water Resources from 2 to 8.Nov.2008 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State


WASER News(From Brazil):

8th National Meeting on Sediment Engineering) organized by the Commission of Sediment Engineering of the ABRH, Brazilian Association on Water Resources. The VIII ENES, whose coordination was done by Prof. Carlos Nobuyoshi Ide, of UFMS, was realized from 2 to 8.Nov.2008 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State, by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. Please, see www.viiienes.com.br . We had 140 participants, including the honor to have Prof. Chih Ted Yang among us. He was invited to minister a short course on Sedimentology. It was very good, all the participants liked his lectures.

Engineers from USGS (John Gray and John Moody) and from the canadian company NHC, Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (Michael Okun, Brad Hall and Victor Galay) also presented the meeting. From Argentina we had a engineer who come here through UNESCO/IHP (Jos¨¦ Daniel Brea). All them presented special lectures.

It was presented 36 papers and 21 posters. All the posters were maintained in exposition all the time of the event.

We had also the short course of Prof. CT Yang, and 3 lectures, and 3 round table for discussions. In the end of the event we had a technical visit of two days in the city of Coxim for water and sediment measurement in 3 rivers, Taquari, Coxim and Taquarizinho. At this time the participants could discuss the several ways and equipments used to make the measurements.
